Thomas McPhee

Cold Bronze Cast

| /

As a master of classical realism, Salt Spring Island's Thomas McPhee combines both figurative and stylized elements in his work that often involves mythological themes and archetypes. The carvings range from small jewelry sized pieces to larger sculptures.

In 2007, McPhee designed a $50 coin for the Salt Spring Island Monetary Foundation. He based the design from the over-life size mermaid sculpture he did for the Salt Spring Rotary Club in 2001, which is located in the Rotary Marine Park on Salt Spring Island.

This cold cast bronze plaque is the original design for the coin, named after the mermaid sculpture, Nerissa.
