"My intent is to make sense of this tangled forest landscape which I moved to years ago from the dry interior of the province, where I knew the spaces between the trees, and the large vistas. Here I am trying to understand the forms and the beauty of the dense underbrush, the exposure of bare branches and the few remaining leaves in the winter light.  My materials are hand-painted, archival tissue papers, and glue."
“Collage lets me weave memory and colour into something new, something grounded in the rhythms of nature.”

Collage Artist Bly Kaye

Bly Kaye is a multi-disciplinary Canadian artist based on Salt Spring Island. Trained in printmaking, design, and education, she has spent decades exploring painting, drawing, weaving, paper-mâché, textiles, and now collage — her primary medium for over ten years. Her work is rooted in place, shaped by the shifting seasons and landscapes of British Columbia, Canada, and Mexico.

Artist Statement

“Throughout my practice I’ve moved through many mediums — painting, drawing, printmaking, weaving, and paper-based materials. About ten years ago I began exploring collage, and it continues to offer new ways to work with colour, texture, and memory. My art is tied to locale, shaped by the seasons and landscapes of home and my travels through Canada and Mexico.”
