Blue Tourmaline Arrowhead by Gail StefanekGemstone Carver
âEvery stone carries its own story. My job is simply to reveal it.â
Gemstone Carver Gail Stefanek
Born on Vancouver Island, Canadian artist Gail Stefanek has spent over twenty years carving gemstones into elegant, wearable sculptural forms. Inspired early on by friend and mentor Thomas McPhee, she creates pieces guided by the natural contours of each crystal. Her work also incorporates Precious Metal Clay, valued for its ability to form seamless, fluid shapes that complement the organic beauty of her stones.
Artist Statement
âThe natural shape of each crystal guides my carving. I begin by studying the stoneâits contours, colour, textureâand let those qualities determine the form. Precious Metal Clay allows me to create fluid, seamless settings that complement rather than dominate the gemstone. My goal is to enhance what is already beautiful and let the material speak for itself.â
