Steffich Fine Art was founded in 1992 by the late Matt Steffich (1958–2020) — musician, collector, storyteller, and accidental cultural architect of Salt Spring Island. What began as a modest island gallery grew, slowly and joyfully, into one of the Gulf Islands’ most recognizable cultural landmarks.

For more than three decades, Steffich Fine Art has brought world-class artists to this forest-wrapped rock in the Salish Sea. We’ve exhibited works by Norval Morrisseau, Jack Shadbolt, Abraham Anghik Ruben, Robert Bateman, and an expanding roster of painters, sculptors, printmakers, jewelers, ceramicists, glass artists, photographers, and multidisciplinary creators.

Our collection ranges from the refined to the rebellious — from hand-pulled lithographs and gem-carved sculptures to the iconic Steffich Rock & Roll Art Collection, built from the Steffich Family’s archive of Fillmore West posters and ticket stubs. These pieces of music history live on at RockandRollArt.ca.

Steffich Fine Art is also proud to be Canada’s sole representative for Lyman Whitaker, the world-renowned kinetic wind sculptor whose mesmerizing outdoor works move with the invisible moods of the wind. His full collection is showcased at WindSculptures.ca.

After Matt’s passing in 2020, the gallery entered a new era under Kaeli Yarwood — former assistant, current Head Unicorn Wrangler, curator, writer, and keeper of Matt’s torch. She is supported by a small but mighty team: her father Randy (resident “Mr. Fix-It”), the ever-loyal head of security Pavlove (tiny, mighty, and adored by visitors), and the invisible gnomes who keep the gallery humming.

Today, Steffich Fine Art remains proudly rooted on Salt Spring Island, a place known for its outsized artistic output. We represent an evolving community of creators deeply committed to their craft. Our collectors come from across Canada and around the world, drawn to the island’s creative spark and the gallery’s reputation for authenticity, warmth, and deep knowledge.

Whether you’re discovering your first artwork or adding to a growing collection, we are here to guide, inform, and celebrate with you.
