Shadows and Sparks at 10 O'Clock i
by Ronald T. Crawford Painter
Salt Spring Island artist Ron Crawford creates art with a unique combination of plaster and acrylic paint, resulting in a modern variation on the frescoes. The surfaces are carved, shaped, sanded and painted until they take on a rich, naturally eroded appearance.
" This work is from my Dangerous Goods series of paintings which explores nails as both a physical marker and a suggestion of caution . Nails are dangerous, sharp, ominous yet everyday object we use. In a painting we wish to move closer to see more carefully what is underneath or formed but the nails add an element of risk. I love the contrast of something that could be both beautiful and yet dangerous. Some of the shadows you see are real and others are not. The surface is constantly changing." - Ron Crawford
