"Aquila and Ara"

Ron Crawford

Salt Spring Island artist Ron Crawford creates art with a unique combination of plaster and acrylic paint, resulting in a modern variation on the frescoes. The surfaces are carved, shaped, sanded and painted until they take on a rich, naturally eroded appearance.

"This first large work from the series I call Chasing Shadows. The painting evolved as a topographical map of an unknown place. The pair were created together, one underneath the other like twins. The shadows reflecting a light source above are painted but the surface forms also make their own shadows. What is real and what is not." - Ron Crawford
